PRP AFTERCARE SEAL
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SEAL:
(Information paraphrased from Saniderm.com)

THE SHORT VERSION:
-
Following a brow, scar or areola procedure, we will cleanse the treated area and apply a thin layer of antimicrobial gel.
-
Then a super thin, waterproof, but breathable transparent overlay will be applied to further protect the treated area.
-
All you have to do as long as the seal remains INTACT, is keep it cool and prevent from sweating. If heavy sweating occurs, you must remove and replace seal - or start the regular aftercare.

This seal does two things:
-
It traps the plasma to allow it to do its job without drying into a scab, If scab forms, color is pulled out. So, we want to do all we can to prevent that from happening.
-
The second thing the seal does is protect against accidental scrapes and friction while sleeping.
-
A travel pillow is still a good extra measure to use while sleeping.

This seal will stay on a minimum of 24-48 hours.
THIS IS AN OPTIONAL MEASURE OFFERED FOR THE PROTECTION OF YOUR INVESTMENT. YOU MAY REMOVE THE SEAL AS NEEDED ACCORDING TO YOUR SCHEDULE OR PERSONAL PREFERENCES. HOWEVER, IF YOU REMOVE THE SEAL, YOU MUST BEGIN THE AFTER-CARE ROUTINE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

MORE DETAILED INFORMATION:

First, what is Plasma and What Does it Do?
Plasma is that gooey, yellowish substance that oozes from the skin after it has been injured. The body sends plasma to the surface of the skin to be utilized for its clotting properties... and it is vital to the entire healing process. Some people even call it LIQUID GOLD for its amazing healing abilities.
As the plasma oozes through the injury site, it helps to stop blood flow as it creates a barrier as it dries and hardens. This scabbing process seals off the body from the risk of infection while the nutrients and proteins in this important fluid begin to do their job—heal the injury. Of course, scabbing is normal and necessary following MOST wounds. However, during the healing process of a TATTOO, scabbing is something we want to avoid.
SO HOW DO WE HARNESS THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF PLASMA WITHOUT CREATING A SCAB?
By preventing the fluid from drying, of course. The Saniderm seals in the plasma and keeps it in its liquid form, while still allowing your tattoo to breath—another stage vital to the healing process. By keeping plasma in its liquid stage, it allows the fluid to do its basic function and heal the body through the use of its varied hormones and proteins. In its liquid form, plasma does not create the scabbing effect.

THE CATCH . . . PLASMA HAS A "SHELF LIFE"
According to the American Red Cross, “Donated plasma is frozen within 24 hours of being donated in order to preserve the valuable clotting factors.” For this reason, it is recommend to LEAVE THE SEAL INTACT for up to 8-24 hours, depending on the level of weeping. You should monitor the weeping and change the bandage as needed to prevent plasma from sitting on the skin for more than 24 hours.

Our PRP SEAL will be applied at the end of your procedure. The concept is to embrace the body's natural healing process instead of fighting it. By locking in your body’s natural healing fluids, the procedure area stays hydrated and clean and promotes faster healing with little to no scabbing.

Under normal circumstances should the treated area be allowed to dry up and scab. When scabbing falls off, it will take a large amount of pigment with it. This process produces less scabbing, and offers better color retention!

The seal locks in the body's natural moisture and enzymes allowing the body to more effectively use its own natural process to heal itself. Because the seal is permeable to oxygen and water vapor, the skin can continue to function normally. Additionally, the seal prevents contamination from outside objects and eliminates friction and other irritants to further facilitate the healing process.

THE SEAL IS BENEFICIAL IN MANY WAYS:
-
When applied immediately after the session, the tattoo is protected throughout the course of the healing process. This protective barrier can drastically reduce (sometimes eliminate) scabbing. Pain is less noticable and it helps to maintain the integrity of the pigment.
-
The SEAL is a thin transparent, flexible, BREATHABLE film that is used to protect new tattoos. This effective barrier protects against water, dirt, germs, friction & bacteria!
-
It eliminates the need to meticulously care for your healing tattoo 3-5 times a day!
-
Since oxygen is vital for the proper healing of tattooed skin, the overlay has been engineered to be gas permeable. It allows your skin to “breathe” in the oxygen it needs to heal perfectly. Because it is breathable, it can be worn for several days at a time while your tattoo heals. Similar bandages have been used by doctors and surgeons for over 30 years, so it is safe!
-
It expedites the healing process, reduces scabbing, and enhances color quality, so you can stop worrying about how your tattoo will heal.
-
With the protection of the overlay, you may go about your business knowing that your procedure will be protected and that it will heal as beautifully as possible.

WHO APPLIES THE SEAL?
We will apply the first seal, since we need to make sure it's done correctly the first time. This happens immediately following your procedure. You may remove and reapply the seal after 24 hours. The second application can be removed after 3-5 days. Some people reapply the seal while others opt out. Some people remove the seal right away and never reapply. There are no hard fast rules here. This is just an optional precaution. You may apply a third application if you would like a little more protected healing time.

DOES THE SEAL CONTAIN LATEX?
Depending on the brand, most seals are latex free. However, if you have an allergy to latex, or have ultra sensitive skin... Text us to schedule a time to stop by and pick up a test strip. APPLY A DAY OR TWO PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT TO MAKE SURE YOU WILL NOT HAVE A REACTION TO THE OVERLAY. If you experience redness under the seal, a rash, abnormal skin irritation, or other symptoms of an allergic reaction, remove the seal immediately, wash with a mild soap and discontinue the use of the seal.
WILL THE SEAL PULL HAIR OR INK OUT UPON REMOVAL?
YES - if you rip it off against the growth of the brow hair.. The seal will not pull ink out of your healing tattoo nor will it remove the brow hair. The adhesives are sensitive to the skin but do not attach to the weeping area of the tattoo. People who use the seal as recommended, report the tattoo colors as even more vibrant and complete compared to other aftercare products.

HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE THESEAL ON MY SKIN?
Everyone reacts differently to the healing process. In general, you should leave the SEAL on your tattoo for at least 24 hours after your artist applies it, but no longer than 7 days. The length of time will depend on how much fluid your tattoo weeps which can affect the adhesion Saniderm. If you notice excessive weeping or fluid under the seal. Some people choose to use the sea on for 2-3 days. Additional seals may be worn up to 6 days.
IS THE SEAL WATERPROOF?
YES. The seal adheres to the skin even when immersed in water, allowing bathing and showering while wearing it. However, adhesion will be compromised with extensive exposure to water or moisture. Avoid swimming.

CAN I SUN-BATHE WITH THE SEAL ON?
NOT RECOMMENDED. The seal does not contain any type of sun block or sun protection, so you should avoid exposing your tattoo to prolonged sun or UV ray contact. After your tattoo is fully healed, please continue to use sun protection to maintain the integrity of your color.
IS THE PROCESS PAINFUL?
NO. In fact, MOST people have a sense of extra security by having the seal applied as it protects against contamination and friction. Some people have said that the healing process was less painful when using the PRP OVERLAY.
CAN I RE-USE THE SAME PIECE OF SEAL?
NO. If you need a new application, please stop by our office if possible. If not, move on to the regular aftercare routine of cleansing twice per day and applying ointment 24/7. But remember, just a VERY THIN SHEEN will do!

THE seal should never be used on infected skin.
Please consult a physician if necessary to determine if you have an infection.
If you have been diagnosed with an infection, please contact us for further instructions.
